As part of their NSF outreach, the lab brought monarch butterfly migration to the BCS community in Downtown Bryan this month. Hundreds of citizens handled lived butterflies and caterpillars, learned about their remarkable migration, milkweed host plants, and took home seeds to enrich their pollinator gardens and contribute to monarch conservation efforts. The event, strong into the dark, was enhanced by creative activities for kids who made their own butterflies with painted coffee filters and clothespins, and got some fun face painting.

Credit goes to an amazing and dynamic group - Michael Gianuzzi, Kayla Goforth, Ying Zhang, Vinaya Shetty, Jarno Capuchino, Rachel Smith and Josh Glanz - as well as our honorary member and make-up artist, Lieu Jean!
